A survey of 1,151 evangelical Christians in Britain has confirmed they are more active citizens than the average Brit.
The online poll showed concrete support for the basic doctrines of Christianity, but also revealed the respondents’ dedication to good causes.
The Evangelical Alliance/Christian Research survey found that a quarter of evangelicals are trustees of a registered charity – way more than the 2.2 per cent national average. Four in 100 have joined a political party, compared to 1.3 per cent of the population, and nine per cent are school governors – almost 13 times more than the norm. More evangelicals also serve as councillors and magistrates, and 90 per cent took part in the Alternative Vote referendum – more than double the national turnout of only 42 per cent.
