Marsden Bicentenary - events and comments

In 2014, New Zealand will celebrate the arrival of the gospel, when the Rev. Samuel Marsden preached on Christmas Day 1814 at Oihi Bay in the Bay of Islands.

Marsden had arrived with a group of other Church Missionary Society missionaries and settlers from Sydney, where he was based. Among those accompanying him was Ruatara, the Nga Puhi leader Marsden had met in Sydney, who translated the service into Maori.

Commemoration celebrations are being planned for New Zealand, and this page is available to post comments and list information of events.
