Examining some current mission reports and ways that Kiwis are finding effective to spread the Gospel in New Zealand and in unreached places around the world. City church Leader: Seth Fawcet How does the concept of ‘one church of a city meeting in many locations’ fit into the extension of God’s kingdom? This workshop will look at some key stories, challenges, and opportunities arising from unity in the church at a local level. Healthy church Leaders: John Daniel, Murray Robertson, Nick Field Over the last few years a great deal has been heard about church growth, but in churches growth is normally an outgrowth of health. The workshop will look at some of the factors that lead to health and some of the things that happen in churches that lead to unhealthy outcomes. John and Murray will draw on their wide experience of what is happening in church life in New Zealand. CViC – Churches Volunteering in Communities Leader: Lindsay Jones CViC: Churches facing community, intentionally cultivating relationships and creating opportunities for the Gospel. In partnership with denominations, CViC intends to: - establish an accredited training programme for community-oriented church volunteers - facilitiate networking for these leaders - provide resources and support for those involved in this ministry Kingdom economics Leaders: Andrew Bradstock, Martien Kelderman Part of our vision for ‘the Gospel in the decade ahead’ will be wanting to see our society become more ‘godly’, and that will mean engaging with questions relating to the economy. But what resources, as Christians and churches, do we have for such engagement? This session gets us looking at three groups of Scripture passages and asking whether – and how – they have any relevance to our 21st-century context. The passages are 1. Creation (Genesis 1–3); 2. A nomadic and agricultural community (Exodus 16:13–30), Leviticus 25:1–28, Deuteronomy 15:1–11; 3. The parables (Matthew 20:1–16; 25:14–30). Biblical worldview Leader: Rod Thompson Is there such a thing as a biblical worldview? If so, what is it? Worldview language has been in vogue among Christian authors and leaders since James Orr (1844-1913) and Abraham Kuyper (1837-1920). More recently, New Zealanders such as Harold Turner have given leadership to worldview thought and writing. In this workshop we will explore the relationship between worldviews, the scriptures and the practices of diverse cultures – and we will chart a way forward for those seeking to impact cultures with the gospel in the next decade and beyond. Transformative Bible engagement Leader: Rasik Ranchord Contributor: Steven Opie Presenting New Zealand research by the Bible Society on Bible engagement, the results of the recent Bible engagement consultation in Malaysia, and looking at the practical outworking in church life.
