Public Christianity: Is there any other kind? (6:30 pm)
Public-Christianity
A conference exploring congregationally-rooted, holistic, public mission - sponsored by:
• Wellington Theological Consortium, University of Otago's Centre for Theology and Public Issues
• Peoples Coffee
• Urban Vision
• LifePoint

Jesus is Lord, and Caesar isn't! Since Jesus is Lord of all, the gospel requires that together we take action to resist "the ways of the world" by promoting ways of living that show evidence of Jesus' lordship. This is not something we can do alone; nor are we expected to. Christ-like living and work in the world cannot be undertaken apart from the body of Christ. Local congregations are the hands and feet of Jesus in the world. Through them he continues to take action.
How may we develop our vision of the gospel? How may our faith communities become missional peoples?
The conference aims to encourage grassroots, congregation-centred, engagement with the whole gospel. Local activists will provide reflections, workshops, and discussion input on a range of local and global considerations, possibilities, opportunities, and challenges. Your input is also welcomed.

Plenary sessions:
Andrew Bradstock (Howard Paterson Professor of Theology and Public Issues and Director of the Centre for Theology and Public Issues at the University of Otago)
Topic: Why Christian theology is a public matter

Jonathan Boston (Professor of Public Policy and Director of the Institute of Policy Studies, Victoria University of Wellington)
Topic: Some personal reflections: Christian faith, public faith, and public life

Chris Marshall (Associate Professor of Religious Studies, Victoria University of Wellington)
Topic: Just Compassion: The good Samaritan and the ethics of restorative care

Ruby Duncan (CEO of IOSIS (providing practical support, including learning, to encourage struggling families)
Topic: The character of thoughtful, informed, Christian social support

Workshops:
Kim Workman - Justice is a public affair
Peter McKenzie - The Clapham Sect
Justin Duckworth - Doing the gospel
Tom Noakes Duncan - Covenanted community as a basis for witness
Matt Lamason & Andrew Bradstock - Just trade and the gospel

In addition, others engaged in public Christian practice will provide workshops on a range of local and global considerations, possibilities, opportunities, and challenges. Also, there will be a facilitated panel discussion with "from the floor" participation .
