Vision Search

Are you looking for a new day for the church Jesus gave His life for? A day when multitudes turn to Christ. What happens when half a billion people from every nation on earth unite for a day in prayer?

More than 25 leaders from churches and Christian organisations in New Zealand met over two days in Wellington recently to discuss the current economic crisis and the churches' response to it.

Kingdom economics, church health, religion in the workplace, climate change, and 200-year commemorations of the Gospel in New Zealand, are high on the radar this year for New Zealand Christian Network, visionnetwork. There's a very busy year ahead for us as we lead up to the 6th Christian Leaders' Congress in February 2011. In addition to preparing for Congress, we will be partnering with others over the next few months in a series of forums covering the following key topics. Mark your diaries now!

Globalization and migration have brought religious pluralism-something that Asians have lived with for millennia-to the West. In the fifth of the Lausanne Global Conversation articles,Singaporean theologian Mark Chan mines his experience as an Asian believer to help Christians everywhere evangelize those who have been blinded by the fallacies of relativism.

How do we serve one another in a diverse global Church?
World mission needs partnership - across national boundaries, between different cultures, and between rich and poor. How do we work together effectively in ways that respect our differences? How do we partner so the rich and powerful don't overwhelm the weak? How do we partner to give honor to God through loving "family" relations? Tim Stafford talks with Valdir Steuernagel, a Brazilian pastor and theologian whose role in World Vision gives him wide exposure to the global church.

"Every time a disaster happens anywhere in the world some within the Christian community tell us it's the judgment of God being poured out on sinful people," writes Bishop Gerald "Gerry" Seale, DD, General Secretary and CEO, Evangelical Association of the Caribbean. "It has become increasingly difficult for me to think in those terms."

Believers from Muslim backgrounds are trying to forge new identities in Islamic cultures. The debate over their options has grown furious. Can one be a Muslim and a follower of Jesus? Tens of thousands believe so, and in this article Yale University scholar Joseph Cumming describes the furious debate their example has fueled. This is the third in the series of Lausanne Global Conversations.
